“Inside each and every one of us is one true authentic swing. Something we were born with. Something that’s ours and ours alone. Something that can’t be taught to you or learned. Something that’s got to be remembered.”- (Those are amazing lines from the movie, “The Legend of Baggar Vance”).
All of us have a definitive purpose in our life, something unique; something which makes us come alive. Finding out your passion and what you really want to do in your life can be a little challenging because it’s something that cannot be taught or acquired, it is something which is already within us and we have to discover.
Passion does not always need to be artistic or creative or “wow” people. It is something which voices in your mind constantly, ‘You are on the right track’; and does not let you get distracted or wander away from it.
Here are seven steps which will help you define and find your true passion:
1) What doesn’t exhaust you? This is a not a one day job but a constant questioning of you being; where you find out what really makes you happy and something which does not make you tired no matter if you do it again and again. Also, you may not be doing it very often but it is something which makes you feel like nothing else exists.
2) Gathering yourself: Rewind and go back to your childhood days; yes we all have done something memorable then. Try and recollect the things which occupied your thoughts most of the time, probably a dream you had, or something you wanted to be when you grow up, a wish you made with hopes it came true someday. Note them and narrow down to a thing which fascinates you even at in the present day.
3) Play the game: While trying to gather yourself, it is likely that you might have multiple things you have on the list to which you feel attached. In such a case, prepare a schedule to practice or execute each of them and very soon you will be able connect and narrow your list down.
4) Be a master of your dreams: You may desire or dream of something which may not be practical or appear futile to the world. You may be passionate about starting a kite flying business or starting a footwear store, that’s completely alright; your passion needs to be fulfilling to you and not your neighbour!
5) Get curious and explore: If you do not really feel passionate about something, it might be possible that you have not experienced it yet. As they say, life is a journey and we need to keep experiencing and learning new things. This could be trying out a new hobby, joining a music class, or volunteering for service.
6) What is it that you would do even if you were not paid for it? Yes, it might sound a little weird when you hear it for the first time but seriously think about it, ask yourself what would you be doing with a smile on your face even if you were not paid for it?
7) Finding that one thing: Don’t feel low if none of these tips really work for you. What might work best could be finding out the one thing that you regret for not having done or not doing more often.
